Brawl breaks out in Iran’s Tabriz prison over Azerbaijani national flag, one injured

A South Azerbaijani national activist Karim Ismayilzada was injured in a brawl over the national flag of the Republic of Azerbaijan in prison in Tabriz, the center of Iran's East Azerbaijan Province, Azad Iran said, Report informs.

As reported, Ismayilzada, a well-known sportsman and social activist, was transferred to a cell with convicts who had committed serious crimes to put pressure on him.

According to the information, three prisoners attacked Karim Ismayilzada after insulting the Azerbaijani flag. The national activist, who was forcibly involved in the brawl, resisted two attackers. The third attacker ran away.

Later on, special forces arrived at the scene. The injured Ismayilzada was taken to the prison's medical center.

One of the accusations against the national activist is hanging an Azerbaijani flag from his car.

It was also emphasized that the incident was purposely committed by criminals with the support of the prison administration and government forces.
