An additional 83 goitered gazelles are planned to be delivered from Azerbaijan to Georgia, Azerbaijani Ambassador to Georgia Faig Guliyev said at a meeting with Georgian Minister of Environment Protection and Agriculture Otar Shamugia, Report informs.
The minister thanked the Azerbaijani side for 83 gazelles transferred to Georgia from the Shirvan National Park. He noted that at present, the population of gazelles in Vashlovani National Park and Samukh Valley exceeds 200.
The goitered gazelle restoration project in Georgia was launched in 2013. The project is being implemented with the active support of the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and the Government of Azerbaijan.
The restoration of the goitered gazelles' population is one of the main priorities of Georgian ecologists.
