Armenian parliament elects new speaker

The National Assembly of the 8th convocation of Armenia elected ‘Civil Contract’ Party’s candidate Alen Simonyan Speaker of the National Assembly in the 2nd secret voting, Report informs, citing foreign media.
Seventy-one MPs participated in the voting, and Simonyan received 71 votes.
Alen Simonyan thanked his colleagues for the high confidence given to him in the post of National Assembly Speaker.
The candidates of opposition parties received no votes since their parties did not participate in the voting.
