Armenian nuclear power plant suspends operation

The Metsamor Nuclear Power Plant in Armenia has suspended operation due to the annual scheduled maintenance, during which the complete unloading of the reactor core will be carried out, Report informs referring to the plant’s website.
“On May 15, 2021, at 00:25 (GMT+4), the power unit No. 2 of the Metsamor Nuclear Power Plant began to shut down, and at 11:45 the power unit was disconnected from the power system of Armenia. The nuclear power plant stopped for an annual scheduled preventive maintenance for 141 days, which is due to the unprecedentedly large volume of work at the final stage of the program for extending the life of power unit No. 2 of the power plant,” reads the message.
