Armenian MP: Deterioration of relations with Russia - risky step for country

Relations between Armenia and Russia are quite tense, no matter how the Armenian government tries to hide this fact or pretend that everything is fine, MP from the Hayastan faction Artur Khachatryan told journalists, Report informs with reference to Sputnik-Armenia.

“Maybe I’m wrong, but in my memory, there was no case when the Armenian ambassador was summoned to the Foreign Ministry and handed a note of protest,” Khachatryan said.

According to the deputy, tension in relations with Moscow is a consequence of Yerevan’s changing foreign policy vector. The Armenian leadership’s gaze is directed to the West, where it is looking for a source of security, “however, it should be understood that Türkiye is located to the west of Armenia. Not France, not other countries, namely Türkiye,” he believes.

The deputy reminded that there is no need to expect military assistance from London or other Western capitals.

He also noted that there are questions about Russian peacekeepers and the quality of their activities.
