Armenia explains reason for removal of Mount Agridag image from passport stamps

The Armenian authorities have decided to remove the image of Mount Agridag (Armenians call it Mount Ararat - ed.) from passport stamps on border crossings in order not to send dangerous messages to neighboring countries, secretary of the ruling party of Armenia "Civil Contract" Artur Hovhannisyan said, Report informs referring to Armenian media.

He assured that there is no conspiracy in this decision, therefore, "there is no need to give it an emotional or sensual background."

"It is possible that the next step will be the removal of the image of the mountain from all our symbols, as well as from the documents and seals that our country previously used. Ararat has a symbolic meaning and does not represent any territorial claims to neighboring countries. I believe that the concepts of "real" and "historical" Armenia are artificial," he noted.

At the same time, touching on the issue of the possible exclusion of the image of this mountain from the state emblem of Armenia, he noted that such discussions are not underway yet.
