Armenia detains nine more over 2020 post-war unrest

Armenian authorities have announced the detention of nine more individuals allegedly involved in the storming of government buildings during the explosive protests that followed the signing of the trilateral ceasefire agreement between Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Russia in 2020.

Report informs via Armenian media that the detainees forced their way through police barricades, smashing windows, damaging the main doors of the government headquarters, and participating in chaotic scenes inside the building. They attacked then-Parliament Speaker Ararat Mirzoyan—now the country’s foreign minister.

The Investigative Committee has submitted requests for pre-trial detention, while efforts to identify all participants from that night are still ongoing.

Earlier, Ara Badoyan, one of those accused of attacking Mirzoyan, was sentenced to three years in prison.
