Armenia arrests three demonstrators in crackdown on protests

On June 5, 2024, Armenian authorities arrested three out of five demonstrators who were protesting outside the country's Foreign Ministry building. The arrests came amidst growing unrest and tensions in the region.

According to Armenian media, cited by Report, the Investigative Committee (IC) of Armenia initiated criminal proceedings against five individuals involved in the protest. The IC submitted a request to the court to arrest four of the detained protesters. The court ruled to arrest three of them, while the fourth was placed under house arrest.

Human rights activist Ruben Melikyan had earlier reported the arrest of Gnel Petrosyan, who was detained for a month on accusations of striking a police shield during the demonstration.
