About 8,500 people expected to be amnestied in Belarus

The amnesty planned in Belarus is expected to include about 8,500 people, Deputy Interior Minister Gennady Kazakevich said, Report informs citing Interfax.

“According to preliminary calculations, when implementing the draft law, it is planned to release about 4,500 convicts, including 1,600 from places of deprivation of liberty, of which 10 are minors, 500 from correctional institutions of an open type, 2,500 from penitentiary inspections, as well as reduce the term by one year for almost 4,000 convicts. In total, the amnesty will affect 8,500 people,” the deputy minister said, speaking in parliament during the discussion of the amnesty law.

The Belarusian MPs plan to consider the draft law on amnesty at the session in early November.
