63 people executed in Iranian prisons over past two weeks

At least 63 people were executed in Iranian prisons in the second fortnight of April, and at least 171 people, including six women, were executed between January-April 2024, the Iran Human Rights non-profit organization said, Report informs.
Executions resumed in April after the end of the parliamentary elections, Nowruz (the Iranian new year) and Ramadan (the Muslim month) typically bring execution numbers down, which have drastically risen in the latest wave of executions.
Of the 71 executions in April, 44 were for drug-related offenses, 26 were sentenced to qisas (retribution-in-kind) for murder, and one for rape. Those executed include 16 Baluch, six Afghan nationals, and three women.
