A total of 27 decisions have been made by the Urmia Lake Restoration Headquarters in Iran's West Azerbaijan Province, said Reza Rahmani, the Secretary of the National Task Force for the Preservation of Urmia Lake, stated during a meeting held in the province on the related issue, Report informs via Mehr.
"Urmia Lake is crucial for everyone, and our primary mission is to implement the restoration plans for the lake," Rahmani emphasized.
Rahmani, who is also the Governor General of West Azerbaijan province, highlighted that it is impossible to consider the revival of Urmia Lake without focusing on its environmental restoration, adding, "Today, we must understand that the residents living near the lake are the most concerned about its condition."
Rahmani further noted that the drying up of Urmia Lake should not be used as a tool to attack the government.
Meeting participants pointed out that the diversion of water from Urmia Lake for irrigation purposes is contributing to the lowering of its water levels.
Experts believe that the drying of Urmia Lake is primarily due to the Iranian government's unplanned use of the country's water resources.
