138 convicts executed in Iran over past 65 days

138 convicts were executed in Iran over the past 65 days, Iran Human Rights NGO said, Report informs via Radiofarda.

This is the highest number in recent years.

According to the information, 88 of them were sentenced to death for being involved in illegal drug trafficking.

29 prisoners were executed in Iranian prisons from March 10 to 24. The organization criticized the increase in the number of executions.

As noted, between March 1 and 15 of 2020, 2021, and 2022, 67, 72, and 94 convicts were sentenced to death, respectively.

“The sharp increase in the number of drug-related executions shows that the amendment to the law in this regard wasn’t effective,” the head of the organization, Mahmood Amiry-Moghaddam, said.

Iran Human Rights reported that five prisoners were sentenced to death yesterday in the prisons of Shiraz and Isfahan.
