US intelligence agencies informed President Donald Trump that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is highly likely to take actions that could jeopardize a peace agreement with Iran, according to sources familiar with the matter, Report informs via The Washington Post.
"The Israeli prime minister is under significant political pressure to continue the military campaign in Lebanon. (...) Intelligence assessments indicate that Israel appears determined to continue military operations against Hezbollah," the material reads.
US intelligence analysts concluded that, with parliamentary elections approaching, Netanyahu's political future is closely linked to his willingness to maintain military activity in Lebanon.
The report also notes Israeli dissatisfaction with the terms of the memorandum between Washington and Tehran, which conflict with Tel Aviv's plans regarding Iran.
Earlier today, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz stated that the Israel Defense Forces would maintain a presence in southern Lebanon "to protect Israeli communities" from threats posed by Hezbollah.
