Venezuela condemns ExxonMobil for increasing oil production in Guyana-Essequibo region

Venezuela has strongly condemned ExxonMobil’s plans to increase oil production in the Guyana-Essequibo territory disputed with Guyana, Executive Vice President of Venezuela Delcy Rodriguez wrote on X, Report informs.

“Venezuela rejects the statement of ExxonMobil Guyana President Alistair Routledge, who announced the drilling of new wells on the undivided offshore shelf of Venezuela and Guyana.

This energy, transnational corporation not only undermines the sovereignty of Guyana, controls the highest authorities of this country, but also intends to protect its illegal operations at sea in the areas to be delimited with the military support of the US and the complicity of Guyana,” Rodriguez said. She stressed that ExxonMobil’s actions violate the joint declaration concluded in December 2023 on the Guyana-Essequibo territorial dispute by the presidents of Venezuela, Nicolas Maduro, and Guyana, Mohamed Irfaan Ali.

“Venezuela will not stop defending Essequibo and will defend its rights under any circumstances,” Rodriguez said.
