The administration of US President Donald Trump has discussed calling the repression of Uighur Muslims in China a "genocide", Report says, citing Politico.
The terms used are currently being discussed in working groups of the State Department, the Ministry of Internal Security, and the National Security Council.
According to the information, Washington may also accuse Beijing of crimes against humanity or ethnic cleansing.
China pursues a policy of systematic persecution of Uighur Turks. In 2017, political and ideological training camps began to open in China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. According to the UN, more than 1 million Uighur Turks, including many famous Uighur scholars, artists, and professional athletes, are detained in these camps. Beijing claims that not only Chinese language and culture, but also professional training courses are held there. However, China is reluctant to provide the world community with detailed information about the Uyghurs' situation there.
