US Treasury urges Washington and Beijing to work together despite differences

The US considers it critical to continue dialogue with China, including on global finance issues, despite the differences between the countries, reads a statement by US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen on June 22 at a press conference before the start of the Summit for a New Global Financing Pact, Report informs referring to TASS.

She noted that both US President Joe Biden and her believe it’s critical to keep in touch with China, work on bilateral relations, clarify points of contention, avoid misjudgments, adding that it is necessary to work together where possible.

She was responding to a request from journalists to comment on the recent statements of Biden, who ranked Chinese President Xi Jinping as a dictator.

She also noted that the US welcomes China’s participation in the summit, calling this fact a positive moment. According to her, it is important that the world’s two largest economies work together to solve global problems, including those related to restructuring the debt of the poorest countries to international development banks. China is one of the largest donors in such projects, Yellen explained.
