US to gain access to military facilities in 17 Swedish locations

The US will have access to military facilities in 17 Swedish locations across the kingdom as part of a new defense cooperation agreement (DCA). These are training grounds, military camps, ports, air bases and airports, Report informs referring to a statement from the Swedish government.

For the agreement to enter into force, it must be approved by the Swedish parliament, which also needs to adopt appropriate amendments to the Constitution. Discussion in Parliament with subsequent entry into force is expected in 2024.

The Defense Cooperation Agreement, expanding the partnership between the countries in this area, was signed on December 5.

The US has similar agreements with many European countries. Negotiations are currently underway in this direction with Finland and Denmark.
