US eyes launching mechanism to track aid to Kyiv

The US expects by March next year to launch a mechanism that will allow the US Embassy in Ukraine to monitor the use of financial and military support by Kyiv from Washington, Report informs referring to TASS.

Signed by US Ambassador to Kyiv Bridget Ann Brink, dated September 6, a nine-page document obtained by Politico newspaper lists the problems US officials face trying to keep track of every penny.

The embassy has been hampered by unsafe conditions and a lack of personnel to monitor the distribution of US aid.

In addition, the existing conflict and active hostilities between Ukrainian and Russian troops make the usual verification mechanisms ineffective or even impossible, the newspaper noted.

The methods of control indicated in it include a special application for smartphones, which, using blockchain technology, will provide evidence that assistance reaches the recipients even in places that are dangerous or difficult for mission members.

In addition, the Ukrainian armed forces may be required to independently conduct inspections of end-use under the rules of the Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) of the US Department of Defense.
