US declares its readiness to bring Serbia closer to Euro-Atlantic community

The United States is ready to help Serbia get closer to the Euro-Atlantic community and the US, and Washington is committed to developing closer ties with the Serbian people, State Department Counselor Derek Chollet said Thursday at a hearing in the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Senate of Congress, Report informs via TASS.

"The history of our relations has been very complex, the relationship has not been easy. However, it is in our interest to help Serbia reach its full potential and get closer to the Euro-Atlantic community and the United States," he said.

Chollet stressed that Serbia now faces serious problems, including corruption and Russian-fueled disinformation. In this regard, he noted that the US is seeking to strengthen its partnership with Serbia and develop closer ties with the Serbian people.

At the same time, Chollet pointed out that Serbia's European aspirations would not materialize until Belgrade and Pristina resolve their differences. In this regard, the Counselor of the State Department noted that the United States supports the dialogue between Serbia and the partially-recognized Kosovo.
