The UN World Food Programme has temporarily halted the humanitarian aid to Afghanistan amid uncertainties regarding security, Russia's permanent representation in the UN World Food Programme and other international organizations in Rome has said.

Report informs, citing TASS, that according to the representation, the WFP has suspended the scheduled supplies via humanitarian corridors due to the situation in Afghanistan. But the organization intends to continue to work in the country depending on the situation on the ground.

Earlier the spokesman for the organization Kun Li said the WFP seeks to continue to ensure its humanitarian programs in Afghanistan if the security of the staff and partners is guaranteed. The organization believes that the situation in Afghanistan has all signs of humanitarian disaster. It also said each third Afghan is facing an acute food shortage.
