UN approves extension of assistance mission in Iraq

The United Nations Security Council has unanimously adopted a resolution to extend the mandate of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) until December 31, 2025. The decision comes in response to a request from the Iraqi government in May, seeking to prolong the mission's support for the country.

UNAMI, established in 2003, has been instrumental in providing political, humanitarian, and developmental assistance to Iraq. The mission has played a crucial role in supporting Iraq's democratic transition, facilitating national reconciliation, and coordinating international aid efforts.

Notably, in February 2023, Iraq's Federal Commission of Integrity, Al-Nazaha, launched an investigation into allegations of corruption involving UNAMI staff members.
