The head of the UN human rights monitoring mission in Ukraine has warned that the civilian death toll in Ukraine may be thousands higher than the official toll of 3,381, with deaths in the port city of Mariupol alone likely to add significantly to the total.
"Overall, to date, we have corroborated 7,061 civilian casualties, with 3,381 killed and 3,680 injured across the country since the beginning of the armed attack by the Russian Federation. The actual figures are higher, and we are working to corroborate every single incident," Matilda Bogner, the head of the UN human rights monitoring mission in Ukraine, told a press briefing in Geneva.
The UN migration agency said 8 million people were internally displaced inside Ukraine by the conflict.
