“The scale of the tragedy at the Kakhovka Dam located in the Kherson region of Ukraine is shocking. Of course, this natural disaster affects the entire region. Thus, many houses and agricultural areas were destroyed,” Yuriy Kamelchuk, deputy of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine from the ruling Servant of the People party, said in an interview with Report's Eastern European bureau.
“Presumably, this leads to the spread of various infections. Therefore, international organizations could provide humanitarian aid to Ukraine faster. This issue does not concern only Ukraine. It is about moving people to safe areas and rescuing surviving animals. Now one of the main issues is addressing the consequences of the disaster. Both Ukrainian and foreign volunteers played an important role in this regard,” he stressed.
According to him, the reaction of international organizations on this issue is very weak:
“The help of volunteers and charity funds is delivered to this region faster and more often. How can different countries act in this sense? In my opinion, they should create permanent commissions that will have various funds at their disposal and make decisions quickly. Otherwise, the solution of any problem is delayed due to various bureaucratic obstacles. Countries with friendly relations with Ukraine, including Azerbaijan and Türkiye, always help Ukraine in difficult times. We are grateful to them, especially Azerbaijan.”
