The United Kingdom unveiled a new "Looking North" policy on the Arctic on Thursday, stating it ceased cooperation with Russia on issues related to the Arctic following the onset of the Ukrainian conflict, Report informs via Teletrader News.
Emphasizing that Russia’s operation in Ukraine "fundamentally undermined the peaceful cooperation that had characterized the Arctic Council since its inception," London stated that it suspended government-to-government engagement with Moscow.
The pre-existing innovation network and collaborative research projects between British and Russian scientists have been discontinued. As per the document, any combined effort remains limited to "only essential work as appropriate and necessary."
