UK condemns attack on Mexican embassy in Ecuador

The UK government condemns the actions taken by the Ecuadorean authorities at the Mexican Embassy in Quito on April 5, Report informs, citing the Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office (FCDO).
"All governments must respect the inviolability of diplomatic missions, as set out in the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations of 1961. The safety and security of diplomatic premises and staff is a fundamental principle guiding diplomatic relations," the FCDO spokesperson said in a statement.
On April 5, Ecuadorian police stormed the Mexican Embassy in Quito and arrested former Ecuadorian Vice President Jorge Glas, who was hiding there and was granted political asylum by the Mexican authorities. Mexico announced severance of diplomatic relations with Ecuador.
