Toyota Motor was forced to halt operations at 12 of its factories in Japan due to a system failure starting Tuesday morning, Nikkei has learned. Japan's largest automaker said it will close its remaining two factories this evening, Report informs, citing Nikkei Asia.

The production of Toyota and Lexus cars has been affected. The glitch leaves Japan's largest carmaker unable to process orders for parts.

Of 28 production lines at 14 domestic factories, 25 lines at 12 plants were shut in the morning. Two lines at the Miyata plant in Fukuoka prefecture and one line at the Kyoto plant of its wholly owned subsidiary Daihatsu were still in production.

Toyota is still investigating the cause of the system failure, but at this time does not think it was due to a cyberattack. In March 2022, all Toyota factories stopped operations due to a cyberattack on its parts supplier, Kojima Industries.

Toyota shares opened up 0.4% in the morning, but investors started selling after the news broke, with shares down 0.8% at one point during morning trading.
