Switzerland is organizing a new shipment of equipment for Ukraine, which will include 30 rubble-clearing machines and 30 fire pumps, Report informs via Interfax-Ukraine.
According to the Swiss government website, the Federal Department of Defense, Civil Protection and Sport (DDPS) provided equipment worth CHF 5.6 million (US$6.5 million). The Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation will finance and coordinate the transportation.
"Homes, schools, hospitals, roads and other civilian infrastructure are being bombed in violation of international law. Many buildings have collapsed entirely, leaving debris that obstructs roads and hampers access for emergency vehicles. In response to this situation, Switzerland will deliver 30 rubble-clearing machines and 30 water pumps for firefighting," the government said in the statement.
It is indicated that in order to minimize the environment impact, the delivery will be carried out by rail. The train will depart Switzerland in the coming days and reach Ukraine in several days.
Switzerland previously delivered similar equipment in October 2022. The government said these efforts are part of Switzerland's broader commitments to Ukraine, which since February 2022 amount to CHF 477 million (US$556.2 million).
