The Swedish city of Enköping will become a NATO logistics hub, serving as a coordination point for troop movements in Northern Europe.
According to Report, citing Swedish broadcaster SVT, Defense Minister Pål Jonson announced that the issue was agreed upon in negotiations with NATO, with the government approving the decision on Thursday.
Around 70 personnel will work at NATO’s Logistics Command in Sweden, overseeing the movement of allied forces in Northern Europe.
“Sweden has always been strategically important for NATO from a geographical perspective. Our capacity to transport resources, including personnel, will be extremely significant,” Jonson said.
The minister stressed that the hub will facilitate the transport of fuel, ammunition, spare parts, and other materials, as well as troop deployments.
“It’s about enabling the transportation of massive amounts of equipment and personnel through Swedish territory,” Jonson added.
