Sri Lanka pardons over 1,000 prisoners on Christmas Day

Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe has granted a special pardon to 1,004 inmates in view of Christmas Day, spokesman for the Department of Prisons Gamini B. Dissanayake told the media on Sunday.
Report informs via Xinhua that Dissanayake said out of the inmates qualified to receive the presidential pardon, there are 989 male inmates and 15 female inmates.
They will be released from the prisons on December 25, he said.
