Sri Lanka imposes curfew

The Sri Lankan authorities have imposed a curfew that will be in effect throughout the island until April 4, according to a press release published on the state news portal, Report informs, citing TASS.
On the evening of April 1, the authorities declared a state of emergency in the country due to the riots caused by the economic crisis. Sri Lankan armed forces have broad powers to arrest suspected rioters.
On March 31, hundreds of demonstrators attempted to break into the home of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa to protest the lack of food, fuel and medicine in the country.
