Snowfall paralyzes traffic in northern Japan

Due to record snowfalls, railway traffic in the area of the administrative center of the northernmost island of Hokkaido, in the city of Sapporo, was completely paralyzed on Monday.
Report informs, citing TASS that a total of almost 670 trains did not operate.
Due to drifts, 70% of passenger buses are idle. The paralysis of the transport system of the Sapporo area is unprecedented, local authorities emphasize.
In the city center on Sunday, 60 cm of snow fell in a day. This is a record for the entire time of observation, the agency notes.
