Scholz plans phone call with Putin

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz plans to have a conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin in the coming weeks, Report informs via the German newspaper Die Zeit.
According to the publication, the phone call is planned ahead of the G20 meeting in Brazil in November. However, there has been no official request for a conversation from the German side yet. If it takes place, Scholz will be the first Western leader to directly contact Putin again after more than a year and a half.
The last phone call between Scholz and Putin took place in December 2022.
US President Joe Biden, French President Emmanuel Macron, and former UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson also last spoke directly with Putin in 2022.
