A proposal has been put forward in Russia to ban migrants from having more than one phone number, Report informs via TASS.
“The head of the State Duma Committee on Labor, Social Policy and Veterans' Affairs, Yaroslav Nilov, has drafted a bill prohibiting foreigners from having more than one phone number. The document notes that such restrictions are aimed at protecting national interests and creating a safer environment for citizens,” TASS says.
According to the explanatory note to the bill, measures to restrict the right of foreigners and stateless persons to own SIM cards on the territory of Russia should be implemented taking into account the growing threats associated with terrorism, espionage, fraud and cyber threats.
As noted, since January 1, 2025, foreigners are prohibited from registering more than 10 phone numbers in their own names in the Russian Federation.
"The adoption of this bill will allow us to effectively respond to modern challenges and threats and ensure control over the communications of foreign citizens," the explanation says.
