The Palestinian authorities have turned down Israel's proposal to reopen the Rafah border crossing between the Gaza Strip and Egypt, citing unacceptable terms set by the Israeli government.
According to Report which cites a source quoted by Sky News Arabia, Israel had offered to allow the crossing to operate under the management of civilians unaffiliated with Palestinian security forces.
The source said the Israeli proposal comes with several contentious stipulations. Israel has demanded a ban on raising the Palestinian flag at the crossing and along the border, insisting on maintaining its presence in the area and the Philadelphi Route. Furthermore, Israel seeks the right to intervene in security checks and interrogations at the crossing.
