Puerto Ricans once again voted for the island to become the 51st US state, Report says, citing ABC News.
52% of voters voted for joining the United States (95% of votes counted). However, the desire of Puerto Ricans has no legal force. The choice is left to the US Congress.
Puerto Rico has been recognized as a US territory since 1898. The country's residents are US citizens, but they cannot vote in presidential elections and have only one representative with limited voting rights in the US Congress.
