The French prosecutor’s office has demanded that a trial be launched against the mayor of the commune of Cantellier (northern France), Mélanie Boulanger, for complicity in drug trafficking, according to AFP, Report informs referring to TASS.
In addition to the mayor, her deputy and 17 other people will appear in court.
The mayor is suspected of “deliberately delaying the installation of CCTV cameras so as not to interfere with one of the families in Cantellier dealing drugs.” Despite the fact that Boulanger publicly stated that she was fighting drug trafficking, the investigation showed that she “collaborated with this family, providing them with information necessary for the development of the drug business.”
The case of drug trafficking in the commune and neighboring Rouen was opened back in September 2019. In October 2021, Boulanger was detained for 30 hours as part of an investigation, and her deputy for economic development, Hasbi Kolak, was detained at the same time.
