Poland expects to receive confirmation of Germany’s consent to the republic’s supply of Leopard tanks to Ukraine from German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Representative of the Polish President Marcin Przydacz said on the air of the Polish Radio, Report informs referring to TASS.
He was commenting on the words of German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock that Berlin will not interfere if Warsaw supplies its German-made Leopard 2 tanks to Kyiv.
According to Przydacz, in accordance with international law, the foreign minister has the right to represent the position of the state, and Baerbock’s words should be enough. But given how the internal discussion looks like in Germany, we would have more confidence this position was also voiced by Chancellor Scholz, he said.
Scholz said on January 22 that Germany is acting in coordination with its allies on the supply of tanks to Ukraine. On January 20, a regular meeting of defense ministers of about 50 countries was held at the US Ramstein airbase in Germany, following which German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said that the participants had not yet decided on the supply of German Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine.
As Prime Minister of Poland Mateusz Morawiecki stated, Warsaw will form an alternative coalition of countries ready to supply tanks to Ukraine if Germany does not agree to the transfer of armored vehicles.
