Prime Minister of Kuwait Mohammed Sabah al-Salem al-Sabah has submitted a petition to the country’s emir, Sheikh Mashaal al-Ahmed al-Jaber al-Sabah, for the resignation of the entire government he heads, Report informs referring to the Kuwaiti agency KUNA.
The resignation of the current Kuwaiti cabinet is a routine event that followed the April 4 elections to the country’s National Assembly (parliament). The government’s resignation after the election of a new parliament is provided for in Article 57 of the emirate’s constitution.
The cabinet, headed by Mohammed Sabah al-Salem al-Sabah, was formed on January 17 this year. All members of the government will perform their duties until the composition of the new government is announced.
According to the Constitution of Kuwait, the first meeting of the country’s new National Assembly must take place no later than 14 days from the announcement of the results of the parliamentary elections. It is at the first session of parliament that the composition of the new Kuwaiti government should be announced.
The first meeting of the new Kuwait National Assembly is scheduled for April 17, 2024.
