Pakistan reports account hacking, denies loan appeal related to operation Sindoor

Pakistani authorities have reported that the official account of the Economic Affairs Division on the social media platform X was hacked, and denied a post calling on the international community to provide Islamabad with additional loans in connection with losses allegedly caused by India’s Operation Sindoor.

Report informs citing the Pakistani outlet Business Recorder, that officials declared the publication fake.

"This post has no connection to the ministry and is false. Currently, no content posted on X is affiliated with the ministry," a spokesperson stated.

The hacking reportedly occurred on the evening of May 8.

Access to X in Pakistan had been restricted since February 2024 and was only restored on May 7. Before that, users could access the platform only via VPN.
