Some 4,500 people took to the streets of Berlin on Wednesday evening as part of a protest against the deaths of Palestinian civilians in Rafah in southern Gaza Strip, Report informs via Der Tagesspiegel.

According to the newspaper, the protesters gathered in the central Kreuzberg district, and then moved towards Neukölln.

The demonstrators used pyrotechnics and threw stones and bottles at the police. As a result, several law enforcement officers were injured, and several participants were detained.

According to the newspaper, the organizers of the event stated the participation of 1,000 people, but police representatives estimated the number of participants at 4,500.

On May 6, the Israeli army announced that it had begun preparing for the evacuation of the population from the eastern districts of Rafah. The next day, the military announced the start of an operation in Rafah and taking control of the Rafah border crossing on the border of the Gaza Strip with Egypt.
