Orban refuses to take responsibility for EU decision on Ukraine

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban left the European Union meeting room when other EU leaders were deciding to start accession negotiations with Ukraine, because he considered it wrong and did not want to take responsibility for such a step, said the political adviser of the Hungarian Prime Minister, Balazs Orban, Report informs.

Balazs Orban was accompanying his boss on a trip to the EU summit in Brussels.

“Hungary's position is clear and unchanged: we do not consider Ukraine ready for negotiations with the European Union. Therefore, we proposed not to start negotiations. However, 26 EU member states think differently, which is why, after a debate that lasted several hours, Hungary decided to leave the meeting room and not take part in the vote, so as not to interfere with the decision and not take responsibility for this wrong decision,” said Balazs Orban.
