General Sale Déby Itno, one of the leading figures of the opposition and uncle of the Chadian president, was arrested by the country’s security forces and taken to the presidential administration, Report informs, citing the portal Tchad One.
The arrest occurred after a raid on the general’s home. On February 10, he joined Chad’s main opposition party, the Socialist Party Without Borders (SPS), and left the ruling Patriotic Liberation Movement (PMS) party. Previously, PDS was headed by the general’s older brother, now deceased former President Idriss Deby Itno, and is now led by his son and the general’s nephew, President Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno. According to the portal, during the attack on the LNG headquarters located in Sale Debi Itno’s house on Wednesday, LNG chairman Yaya Dillo was killed, and his body was taken to an unknown direction. According to Tchad One, a similar fate may await General Sales Debi Itno.
On February 28, President Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno ordered “the immediate arrest of all (SPG) activists, regardless of their status and location,” who participated in the attack on the National Security Agency's (NSA) headquarters in N’Djamena. The previous night, the NSA office was attacked, and authorities blamed the SPG, saying the attack was in response to the arrest of an SPG activist accused of attempting to kill the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. Dillo, on the other hand, described the attack on the court president as a "provocation.”.
The incident occurred the day after the announcement of presidential elections scheduled to be held in Chad on May 6, in which Yaya Dillo planned to participate.
