Number of Iranian citizens seeking asylum in Germany doubles

The number of Iranian citizens seeking asylum in the Federal Republic of Germany has increased, Germany's Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF) told Report.
Between January and November of 2022, the federal office received 6,392 asylum applications from Iranian citizens; 5,447 were first-time applications, and 945 were second-time applications.
The number of Iranian citizens who sought asylum in Germany after mass protests in Iran is twice as much as compared to the same month in 2021.
According to the BAMF, 613 Iranian citizens applied for refugee status in September, 892 in October, and 1,039 in November 2022.
BAMF states that the total number of asylum seekers in January-November 2022 is 214,253.
