Numan Kurtulmus: Sweden's NATO membership is impossible dream

Sweden's NATO membership is an impossible dream of Stockholm, which does not want to meet Ankara's demands, Speaker of the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM), Numan Kurtulmus, told Milliyet, Report informs.

He recalled the tripartite agreement between Türkiye, Sweden and Finland: “Will they engage in provocative acts and then ask us to agree with their NATO membership? I'm sorry, Türkiye sticks to its word. We want our opponents to keep their promises. Waiting for NATO membership for Sweden, which doesn’t fulfill its obligations, is simply an impossible dream.”

Kurtulmus also strongly criticized the burning of the Koran in Sweden. According to him, the court's support for fascist and Islamophobic demonstrators is undoubtedly harmful: “These are unacceptable. They talk about the high values of Europe and the coexistence of different cultural values. They talk about democracy on one hand and respect for beliefs on the other other. But provocative, anti-Islam and anti-human actions cannot be justified in any way. These are the steps taken to incite the biased hostility of some circles against the Islamic world.
