Niger PM to visit Iran, Türkiye, Russia and Serbia

Niger's Prime Minister Ali Lamine Zeine, accompanied by the ministers of defense, oil, sports, trade and other officials, embarked on a tour on Monday. The Nigerien delegation is expected to visit Iran, Russia, Serbia and Türkiye, Report informs via TASS.

A government source said that Niger's new authorities intend to diversify partnerships in the fields of defense, agriculture, energy, and also develop relations in the field of oil and medical equipment trade.

At the end of July 2023, a group of soldiers from the Niger Presidential Guard rebelled and ousted President Mohamed Bazoum. To govern the country, the National Council for the Salvation of the Motherland was formed, headed by the commander of the guard, Abdurakhman Tchiani. Leaders of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) imposed tough sanctions against the rebels and demanded that they release Bazoum, threatening to use force.
