One of the largest cities in the United States, New York has seen a sharp increase in crime, Report informs, citing the New York Police Department (NYPD).
The number of crimes committed in the city last week has grown significantly compared to the same period in 2021. The biggest jump was recorded in car thefts.
According to statistics, car theft is up more than 96% compared to the same period last year. During the week, 255 cars were stolen, an increase of more than 116% over the same period the previous year.
At the same time, a significant rise is observed in thefts of property and money, and robberies have increased by about 35%.
Police believe that the ongoing frosty weather in New York has not deterred criminals, and even as the weather warms up, crime may boost.
