New York drops mask-wearing requirement for enclosed spaces

The US state of New York is lifting the requirement to wear masks indoors from February 11, New York Governor Kathy Hochul said on Twitter, Report informs.

"We are not where we were in early December. New Yorkers did the right thing to get through the winter surge, and we can now lift the statewide mask-or-vaccine requirement for indoor businesses starting tomorrow. Counties, cities and businesses can still choose to require masks," she said.

The wearing of masks remains mandatory in schools.

Over the past year, while the requirement to wear masks in the summer has been canceled even at the federal level, in New York, the administration of most residential complexes, office buildings, stores and various institutions insisted on their mandatory wearing.

Five states, including New Jersey, Delaware, California, Connecticut and Oregon, have announced the mitigation of mask-wearing regime this week.
