The NATO air forces and the partner countries of the alliance - Finland and Sweden - began in the airspace of the Baltic states. An exercise called Ramstein Alloy 22–2 is held once every four months.
Report informs citing foreign media that the purpose of the exercises is to protect the airspace of the Baltic countries, conduct communication and control procedures. During the exercises, in particular, they will work out actions in case of loss of communication, escorting aircraft, and identifying air targets.
Ten aircraft are involved in the exercises. Among them are fighters from France and Spain, as well as aircraft from Finland, Germany, Sweden, Great Britain and Turkiye. The active phase of the exercises will take place on June 6-9 in Estonian airspace.
Ramstein Alloy exercises have been held since 2008. The NATO naval exercises Baltops 22 also began in the Baltic Sea on June 5 this year. 14 NATO countries, as well as Sweden and Finland, are participating in them. The exercises will last until June 17 and will be the largest in the history of the alliance.
