More than 2,000 polling stations in Moldova opened their doors on Sunday at 7:00 (9:00 Baku time) to elect the country's president for the next four years.
About 1,900 local and 309 international observers monitor the elections this year, Report says, citing the foreign press. Some 6,000 police officers ensure security in polling stations. Besides, video surveillance cameras are installed in voting places.
The turnout threshold in the first round is 33.3%.
If the votes are less than 50%, the second electoral round will take place in two weeks, the winner of which will be the one who obtains a simple majority. The second round has no participation threshold.
The polling stations will close at 21: 00 (23: 00 Baku time).
