Moldova aims to conclude EU accession talks by 2028

Moldova has set an ambitious goal of joining the European Union by 2030. To achieve this, the country must conclude its accession negotiations by the end of 2027 or early 2028, according to Cristina Gerasimova, Moldova's Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration.

According to Report, in a statement to journalists, Gerasimova emphasized that "European institutions are open to the idea of Moldova becoming a member of the EU by 2030, and that EU states are fully supportive of Moldova's aspirations."

Gerasimova acknowledged that this is a rather optimistic plan, but stressed that the country must take advantage of the goodwill shown by Europeans.

In June 2022, the EU granted Moldova and Ukraine candidate status, setting out several strict conditions for the formal start of accession negotiations.
